Iapygia, also known as Apulia, was a historical region in the southeastern extremity of Italy, located between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, and bordered by the Lucania and Samnium regions.

Historically, Iapygia was inhabited by a group of peoples together known as the Iapyges, comprising the Dauni, Peuceti and Messapii. Though the exact origin of the Iapyges isn't known for sure, they are often believed to have been closely related to the Illyrians (and are represented as such in-game). Iapygia received a few Greek colonies starting in the 8th Century BC, making it part of Magna Graecia. The Romans started their conquest of the region in the 4th Century BC during the Samnite Wars, reaching its conclusion in the 3rd Century BC after the Pyrrhic War.
